The spontaneous and unexpected ways that a child will experience play on a playground is critical as they learn to exert their creativity and imagination. These carefully considered outdoor environments enhance a child’s early motor skills, coordination, flexibility, sense of adventure and communication—uniquely contributing to the development of a happy and well-adjusted child.

The town of Scituate recognized the importance of developing a state-of-the-art, 16,000 square foot play space that incorporated a combination of hard structure play equipment and flexible-use lawn spaces for free-play. The site’s considerable grade change was artfully transformed into a mounded play feature with integrated slides.

It is perfect for all ages! With big and little play and climbing structures, a zip line, swings, slides and fun features like musical pipes and a push carousel, it has something for everyone. Bonus, the kiddos get to watch the trains go by!

DMLA worked extensively with stakeholders to engage in charrettes, listen to feedback, incorporate key driving considerations, and facilitate an active public participation process. Delivered on time and below budget, project contingency funds were utilized to increase ornamental flower plantings and add additional site furnishings to the site. The result? Full-body workouts that build self-confidence: improvements to circulatory and neurological health, engaged senses, and the strengthening of cardiovascular systems in children while in a safe, well-planned playground.
